Two IV fluid bags drip water and milk, representing imagined conversations to my mother, as an attempt to make sense of my place in the world. Over time, the milk spreads, altering the color of the water in the black pool.

Quousque Tandem?, 2021
Aluminium, Water, Wood, Acrylic paint, Electronics, (audience as performers)
As Is Where Is at Verheerskade, The Hague, Netherlands
“Quousque Tandem?”:
Wie lange noch (soll es dauern)?
Anfang einer Rede Ciceros: “Quosque tandem, Catalina, abutere patientia nostra? “Wie lange noch wirst du unsere Geduld missbrauchen?”
How long still (shall it last)?
The beginning of a speech of Ciceros: “How long still, O Catalina, will you exploit our patience?

The body of water has a volume that amounts to the same weight as that of my body, whilst the aluminium frame, encasing the body of water, is measured to match my height and my width. The white constuction around the body of water documents the traces of footsteps of people observing the work, interacting with it or simply passing by.
As one steps on the work, small riple effects are emmited that cause the water to move slightly and distort the reflected image.
It is a play on absence and temporality in relation to others and to time.
It is a play on my existence as observed within the world.

The work is connected to the gallery’s main light switch, located at the opposite end of the gallery space.
As one flips the light switch, motors turn on in timed intervals and different placements, that shake the white water, accompanied by overbearing machinery sounds.
A play between unpredicatble overbearingly torturous sounds and silence.
A play between violence and the yearning for motherly nurture.

The quote is from Egon Friedell's “Goethe im Examen” (Goethe in the exams), a theatre play on Goethes life and works, ridiculing his famous last words “more light”.
